About Wild Heart

Launched in the summer of 2022, Wild Heart is a vegan bakery based in Rockport, Massachusetts, aiming to reinvent the classics and bring new creative flavor combinations to the community.

The seed for Wild Heart was planted during the 2020 lockdown. A forced time out gave people the space to dream, create, and get back to basics which in Desta’s case, led to tasty consequences. Her sometimes hobby of baking and sharing vegan treats with friends became a regular obsession and her countertops quickly overflowed with muffins, breads, and scones. Rave reviews from loved ones and people in her community encouraged Desta to become more intentional in her culinary pursuits. She saw a real lack of plant-based options in Cape Ann and wanted to introduce her new community to the joys of plant-based eating. What better way to do that than with tasty homemade treats?!

About the Owner

Desta Marika is an animal lover, culinary explorer, international adventurer, and longtime yogi. Her dedication to animal welfare, environmental justice, and holistic health has shaped and guided all her personal and professional endeavors so it was only a matter of time before Desta created a business to share her passions with the world. When she isn’t baking, Desta is busy teaching fitness and yoga, tending her vegetable garden, playing with her rescue pups Maya and Madi, drinking way too much coffee, and planning her next international trip.

Desta believes that vegan food can be an accessible, delicious alternative to highly-processed, animal-based products. Her hope is that her business, Wild Heart, will inspire people to look at how animal-based ingredients are sourced, how simple it is to create animal-free products, and ultimately, encourage people to make more compassionate and sustainable choices in how they shop and eat.
